Nurse Practitioner Cost Continuing Education Online

Continuing education for Nurse Practitioners is mandatory in most states. The ceus are required to maintain nursing licensure as well as enhancing or upgrading skills. Check with your state board of nursing for specifics as these will vary from state to state. Many employers include a continuing education allowance as part of their benefit package for NPs, physicians, and PAs to encourage the highest quality and state-of-the-art continuing education.

When negotiating your initial or ongoing contract, this benefit can be worth its weight in gold. Allowances typically range from $1000 to $4000 per year to cover travel, lodging, meals, and conference fees. A mid-range of $1500 to $2000 is often adequate and can be subsidized with additional employer-based continuing education, online ceu courses or virtual conference fees.

Experts will tell you that NP or medical conferences can be some of the best resources and experiences for continuing education, but they come at higher costs particularly when adding in hotel accommodation and meals. The opportunity to mingle and network with other health care providers along with access to some of the leading experts and specialists in the field is well worth the time and expense.

Attendees also have the availability to interface with a variety of vendors to see and handle new products and technology. There will also be opportunities to meet with employers and learn more about potential career growth options. Conferences often offer 1-2 social events to encourage conversations and even include entertainment for families.

In-Person Conferences are Returning

As the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions begin to ease, in-person conferences are returning. The biggest and most well-known conference for NPs is the AANP (American Association of Nurse Practitioners) National Conference. There will be up to 38 contact hours of continuing education available. This conference is scheduled for June 21-26, 2022, in Orlando, FL.

The conference will also include exclusive keynote speakers, policy and global as well as national, state, and local legislative updates, a multitude of exhibitors to visit with, hands-on skills workshops, evidence-based research and practice presentations, and more. There will be ample opportunities to network with NPs in all specialties and practice settings from all over the country. In addition, registrants will receive access to the online on-demand package at no additional charge. There is a virtual only option as well.

Health Policy Conference

The AANP is also offering a Health Policy Conference March 6-8, 2022, in Washington DC along with several regional and topic focused conferences which will be held from March to late summer 2022 only some of which offer ceus.

General and Practice Specific Conferences

Other conferences for 2022 are being planned in a variety of formats including in-person attendance, virtual conferences, and a hybrid or on-demand option. There is great value in offering on-demand replay events for both virtual and in-person attendees. These conferences range from general NP interest to practice specific specialties. They are also designed to help expand the recognition of NPs and the vital role they play in the healthcare setting today. The conferences offer NPs the opportunity to meet and greet as well as opportunities for serious networking, advocacy, and partnerships. They allow for presentation of cutting-edge technologies and treatment modalities as well as improved diagnostics.

Legislators are often invited as speakers and participants at local or regional conferences to afford attendees face-to-face conversations about NP practice and specialty legislation and regulations. Typically, these conferences are less expensive, but also offer more limited continuing education options.

Opportunities for NP Students

Most of the conferences are also open to NP students to have in-person or virtual options to meet and network with seasoned NPs and learn more about the profession, educational and employment opportunities and expected future advancements in the field.

Specialty conferences are being planned throughout the US to cover topics such as health policy and advocacy which will focus on the skills and techniques necessary to help advocate for and influence legislation that will impact NPs, patient care and outcomes, along with the overall healthcare system.

Acute Care NP conferences will address subjects such as infections disease, management and prevention of COPD, psychiatric and mental health crisis, and pharmacology issues including sepsis and multidrug-resistant pathogens in the acute care settings of hospitals and Emergency Rooms.

The Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association (GAPNA) will present a conference in the Orlando, FL region in September 2022, to address topics such as elder abuse, dealing with the homeless veteran population, end-of-life discussions and care, telehealth programs, and dementia care.

The National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN) will hold their 38th annual conference in September 2022. The focus will be primarily on challenges facing novice and expert neonatal nurses such as nursing shortages, nutritional requirements of newborns, adaptation to life in the world outside the womb, endocrine and metabolic challenges, fluid and electrolyte management and balance, breastfeeding issues including cue-based feeding donor milk program issues and overall support of breastfeeding in general.

Nurse Midwife conferences will focus on expanding the knowledge base and skills to improve outcomes for the entire family. The GOLD online conference will take place over two months and provide information and education including defensive charting, exploring paradigms of consent and birth trauma, obstetric violence among a wide variety of topics to be covered over the course of the two months. The conference runs from Feb. 1-April 30, 2022.

NAPNAP the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners will hold their 43rd National Conference on Pediatric Health Care in Dallas in March 2022, as well as a virtual option in April 2022,  with over 80 unique workshops, seminars, and poster presentations in acute, pediatric primary and specialty care.

Primary care and psychiatric nurse practitioner symposiums and associations are also offering conferences in 2022 to offer experiences and education in clinical practice, professional development, and innovations and research in practice settings.

Each of the conferences offers continuing education units for many of the presentation and skills workshops in addition to the other priceless networking opportunities afforded to virtual and in-person attendees.

Online CEU Courses for NPs

In addition to attending conferences, NPs can find continuing education opportunities in local or regional webinars or seminars, through employer-based education presentations and through online continuing education courses. NursingCE.com has a large selection of ceus for APRNS in general practice skills as well as specialty areas such as pharmacology. Be sure to check out these options as well.
